From the moment I closed my Kindle on Ashe Barker’s Her Dark Viking, I eagerly awaited the third installment in this wonderful series. Happily, my patience was rewarded. Once again, Ms. Barker has written a superb Viking tale! Her Celtic Captor is a compelling read and while it can certainly be enjoyed as a stand-alone, my familiarity with the previous two novels made it all the more gratifying. The initial turmoil between Brynhild and Taranc and their struggle to overcome the demons of Brynhild’s past is well written and emotionally charged. Tempers flare. Sparks fly. Passion deepens. Old wounds reopen and love heals. Appearances by Fiona & Ulfric and Mairead & Gunnar from the previous novels make for a truly satisfying conclusion with all the pieces falling perfectly into place. This is the third book in the series; and while this is the only book I have read, I didn’t feel like I was dumped in the middle of the story. The author has a way of bringing this time to life where you can feel the pain of the captives, the dreariness of the weather, and the emotions of all the characters. I initially really wanted to dislike the lead female character but knew there was something “more” to make her act the way she did. The author was able to weave a tale and add twists that brought everything together in a very satisfying conclusion. I will definitely be reading the other two books in the series as the characters simply scream to me that I must learn their back story. Great weekend read!

This is a stand alone sequel to Her Dark Viking and Her Rogue Viking and I think this is my favorite of the series. The story features around Brynhild and Taranc. I Wasn’t a fan of Brynhild in the previous books, but I got to know her a lot more in this book. I found out why she acted like she did and she really grew on me.
I love the insights into the Viking and Celtic way of living. Brynhild and Taranc have great chemistry and I loved their banter. It was also nice to see the characters from the previous books.
